7 Drawbacks Of The Superiority Complex.

Living a balanced life has its benefits and an imbalanced life has its disadvantages. The struggle of this human life is nothing but to create a balance. In that case, the inferiority complex and superiority complex are not good. So, they have many drawbacks. In one of our blog posts, we discussed the disadvantages of the inferiority complex. In this article, I will discuss the drawbacks of the superiority complex.
Superiority complex is a psychological condition where an individual believes that he is more intelligent, more acceptable and superior than others.
This kind of thought may arise from childhood trauma, parental influences, comparison and competition. Low self-esteem can also create a sense of superiority complex. There might be many reasons behind the superiority complex. But here in this article, we will talk about the weaknesses of the superiority complex.
7 Drawbacks of The Superiority Complex.
1. You Become Arrogant.
When you nurture the thoughts that you are superior to others, you become arrogant. It is a form of excessive pride. You try to belittle and disrespect others as you believe you are inherently better than others. Arrogance begets anger.
If a person gets angry always, he can never do anything big. This arrogance keeps him away from society and he becomes lonely.
So, the superiority complex invites arrogance. Arrogance begets anger. Anger makes your life imbalanced and messy.
But it would be best if you understood the difference between arrogance and confidence. Where confidence is a realistic and healthy habit but arrogance is an unrealistic and unhealthy habit.
2. Ego Increases.
The superiority complex often increases the ego in an individual. When someone gets recognition, praise, rewards, and admiration for his achievements, he starts believing that he is all in all.
This external validation and admiration contribute to increasing the ego. They become selfish and a selfish person can never be happy. If you are unhappy in this lifetime, why are you living this life?
Your ego negatively impacts your relationships. You cannot collaborate with others and making friends is difficult for you. Self-growth becomes limited and you become unhappy.
It is important to note that a healthy level of self-esteem and self-confidence is necessary for well-being. In a word, egoistic behaviours are bad for anyone.
3. You See the World Through A Keyhole.
Seeing the world through a keyhole means having a limited perspective on life and the world around us. Indeed, an individual can’t see every perspective of the world in one lifetime. In that case, you can broaden your vision to see a vast world picture.
When you see the world through a keyhole, you experience a lack of understanding and adaptability. If your understanding is not good, you might miss many opportunities and your judgments might be incorrect. Your relationships and connections are reduced.
By confining ourselves to a narrow view, we limit our creative potential and innovation. In a word, your life becomes incomplete.
To deal with these advantages, you need to broaden your perspective to see the vast world picture.
4. You Are Disrespectful.
It is usually seen that the people of higher authority often disrespect the people of lower authority. But why? It is because they suffer from a superiority complex. They believe that they are the primary factors. But the truth is that they are higher because the lower makes them higher.
For example, you can never be a teacher until your students make you a teacher. When you disrespect others, they also stop respecting you. It is obvious that they don’t tell that but they do so.
When there is no respect between people, there is no good relationship and no happiness. So, if you disrespect others because of your negative emotions, low self-esteem, and insecurity; then you should check your behaviour and correct them.
Respectful communication, understanding, and empathy are essential for building a strong, healthy, and happy relationship.
5. Self-growth Decreases.
Self-growth means personal growth or self-improvement. The beauty of life comes when you continuously grow in life. This process of self-growth involves expanding knowledge, skills, abilities, emotional intelligence, spiritual understanding, and overall well-being.
When you believe you know more than others, you decrease your self-growth. Now you think that you are perfect and you don’t need to know anything more. In this way, you limit your growth.
If you find that your self-growth is decreased, it can be helpful to work on the underlying reasons to rejuvenate your self-growth. Always remember that self-growth is a lifelong journey and you have to face so many setbacks to continue this.
6. Impaired Relationships.
Relationships are priceless things in human life. As a social being, you can not live without family. It is different for those who walk on the path of spirituality. But for a normal individual, relationships matter a lot.
Your family members shelter you and support you to grow in life. They always try to make you happy. On the other hand, your friends always make you happy and never let you be alone.
But it is necessary to note that great and good relationships demand respect and care for each other. Sometimes, you have to check your agitated mood just to maintain good relationships. But you do them with utmost care and respect.
But in the superiority complex, you always try to win every fight and want to be highly accepted. This thought of self-importance can never permit you to build a great connection. We are so busy in ourselves that we forget to appreciate others; as appreciation is the greatest weapon to build a strong and beautiful relationship.
So, if you truly want to live a happy, interesting, fascinating, and complete life, then try to make your relationship better by overcoming the superiority complex.
7. You Become Lonely.
When you are arrogant and egoistic and you have poor relationships because of the superiority complex, how can you be a happy person? Because in that case, you cannot make good friends and collaboration with others. This might create loneliness.
This sense of loneliness can never make you happy and you end up living an incomplete life. Loneliness can be temporary but if you are experiencing a persistent feeling of loneliness, you can talk to friends, family members, and even health professionals to overcome this sense of loneliness.
The moral of the story is that if you truly want to live a happy and complete life, then try to live a balanced life. Living a balanced life permits you to live your life happily and completely.
