Have you ever thought that our forefathers have done so many great things? But we are unable to do those even when we have enough time, information and opportunities.

Why are we not for something big?

It’s because we all are procrastinators. We don’t like a tough life and we wish for an easy one. An easy life is comfortable to live but it does not have sparks.

So, if we want to live this life to the fullest; we have to kill our greatest enemy i.e. procrastination.

Here I am going to talk about procrastination and the reasons for procrastination.

Why do we procrastinate?

What is procrastination?

Procrastination means that you delay your act until the deadline comes. It is a force that prevents you from doing what you set to do.

Our forefathers were not procrastinators. They have opened many pathways in front of us. But this modern world has made the majority of people master procrastinators. As there is so much information, we think we can easily perform any work with the help of the information. And that easy pathways have made us lazy and also lethargic.

Our brains now always find comfortable ways to live this life. So, if we want to overcome procrastination, we have to understand the reasons behind this.

Active Procrastination VS Passive Procrastination.

Active procrastination is when you are in some work but delaying it until the deadline is reached.  You are stuck in your job. You don’t love it wholeheartedly and even you can not leave it. So, you always complete your task at the eleventh hour.

Passive procrastination means when you are indecisive and uncertain of what should be done. You want to find your passion but you always put that in tomorrow.

You love doing something adventurous but you don’t feel that much courage. The situation excites you temporarily but you can not continue that in the long run.

The Difference Between Procrastination and Laziness.

Are procrastination and laziness the same? Some may think these are the same. But there is a slice difference between these two situations.

Procrastination means when you love to do something special in life. You want to do or perform some greater things in life but you always delay your work.

But laziness means when you don’t have any wish to do something special in life. Monotonous life becomes comfortable for you and you wish to stay there. You don’t want to do anything out of the box in life. You are lazy because you don’t want to progress in life.

Is Procrastination Good or Bad?

The term procrastination sounds like a negative term. Whenever we listen to this term, we think it is not good for our work. But every situation has its plus and minus.

In productive work, procrastination is bad because it makes hindrances your progress. Your growth decreases and you remain to unfold the secrets of this life.

For example, you are working in a company. If you procrastinate your work every time, the company manager has the right to reject you from the company.

On the other hand, in creative work, procrastination is good. The creative work needs so much attention and time. And once the work is done, your work bears your identity.

For example, you are trying to create an unforgettable painting. It takes a lot of time, effort and attention but once it is created, it remains forever on this planet.

Leonardo Da Vinci took more than a decade to complete the world-famous painting  Monalisa and now it is the most priceless painting on this planet.

The moral of the story is that; procrastination is good for creative work but bad for productive work

Why Do We Procrastinate?

We usually procrastinate but there are some reasons which cause this sluggishness. So, here I am going to discuss some core reasons which cause this procrastination.

1. You Are Not Interested In Your Job.

Our career or work field has a great impact on our lives. When we drive enjoyment from our work, life flows smoothly and problems become less.

When we learn something new, it snatches our sleep. Time becomes slow, we wait for the time and also enjoy the moment. It is like learning cycling for the first time. When we learn to cycle, we always wish to do that more and more. There is no delay then. But when once it is learnt, there does not have a spark like the earlier.

So, if you hate your job, you usually delay your job and finish at the eleventh hour. You only finish that because of the fear of losing your job. If you loved your job, you would have completed it in the exact time as much as it’s needed.

Psychology says monotonous work gives birth to anxiety, depression and boredom. Boring work also makes your brain dull and unproductive.

So, if you are doing your job because of social pressure, peer pressure or fear; procrastination is your companion then.

So, the core reason behind procrastination is not loving the work or not following the passion. Life flows and you stay in a flow state when you do your job with passion.

2. You Believe In Your Super Ability.

If you have a strong belief in your ability that you can complete anything before the deadline, you delay your work. This kind of belief develops when you complete your task like that before the deadline is reached.

This situation gives you a different kind of courage and enthusiasm when completing your task. You get immediate gratification and always wish to get that.

So, if you have the super ability to complete the task, you usually procrastinate.

3. You Are The Greatest Finisher.

When you love to play at the finishing point of any game, your mind prevents you to complete that earlier. If it becomes your habit and you know that you are the greatest finisher, you usually pass your time before the deadline. You know that you can compensate for your time perfectly.

The greatest finisher has the belief that they can finish their job on the exact time; so there is no wrong with procrastination.

4. You Think Your Time Is Limitless.

It is true that if the person has the time, he can effort to kill his time. But what if he does not have enough time?

He will try his best to complete his task in the limited time because he knows his time is limited. It is like a sinking man who holds even a straw to save his life.

So, if you think your time is limitless, you can procrastinate. People usually procrastinate because they nurture the thought that they have many more lives to live. But they don’t know that everyone has limited time.

The moral of the story is that when your time is limitless, procrastination is common for you.

A child has enough time to waste but an adult has less than a child. An old has limited time to live that’s why they try to live like a child; freely and happily.

5. You Are Living A Secure Life.

When you feel your life is secure; that means you are not in search of bread, a home and cloth, you live a secure and comfortable life. This comfort destroys your growth and allows you to be a procrastinator.

Anyone whose life is at a stake could never be a procrastinator. Procrastination is only possible when you are in your comfort zone.

So if your life is secure, you are more prone to delaying your work because you know then that you are in the safe zone. You will not die if you don’t earn for your family. But if you are in a do-or-die kind of situation, delaying is next to impossible.

The moral of the story is that your secure and comfortable life plays a great role in your procrastination.

6. You Misunderstand Life.

If the purpose of this human life is not clear to your i.e. you misunderstand life, procrastination can be a habit for you.

Once you understand that you have got this life for only one time and you have to achieve the maximum in the minimum of time, your procrastination decreases then.

When someone understands the beauty and purpose of this life, they try to live life to the fullest and time management becomes so easy for them. They live every moment and they work every second. They never refrain from doing the work.

So if you understand life perfectly, procrastination could never affect your growth and progress.
